Description

Playa Zancudo is a small village in Puntarenas Province nearby Golfo Dulce in Costa Rica. The village is very famous among sport fishermen. Playa Zancudo is not a major surf spot. It features a very consistent beach break with a large rivermouth that go left and right breaking over a sandy bottom. The spot is best surfed at low and high tides with nice swells coming from the south and southwest.

Zancudo Restaurant Costa RicaThe size of swells starts building up at 6 feet and hold up to 8 feet. When the tide is low, the waves become tubular while during the high tide, the waves tend to be longer. On good days, the waves ride up to 500 meters!

The spot is great for all levels of surfers. The waves are gentle, fun with ordinary power providing a good base for beginners. The beach break of Playa Zancudo remains secluded most of the times.

Surf Camps near Playa Zancudo

Unlike Pavones, Playa Zancudo is not a surfer’s village. There are quite a few surf camps in Pavones that arrange surf expeditions to Zancudo.

In the Zancudo area itself, you can try the Zancudo Lodge, an eco-lodge that offers surfing.

Adventures in Playa Zancudo

The black sand beach of Zancudo dotted with coconut and almond trees creates an ideal place for tranquil vacations. The shorelines are clean and ocean is quite calm, especially on the northern end. The beach is a perfectly balanced platform offering adrenaline rushing adventures and a quiet and serene retreat. If you wish to surf and boogie board, the southern region of the beach is a place to be. Other sporty activities you can try out are sport fishing, water skiing, scuba diving, ocean kayaking, swimming and many more. Other beach adventures include horseback riding on the beach, hiking, trips to national parks, botanical gardens like Casa Orquideas Botanical Gardens and amazing trips to the river, Río Coto Colorado. The river hosts plenty of fun opportunities such as monkey watching, crocodile tours, bird watching and many more. Nearby attractions are La Amistad International Park, Corcovado National Park and Piedras Blancas National Park.

Playa Zancudo presents luxurious vacation rentals, lavish hotels, cheap but comfortable cabinas and cozy bed and breakfasts.
